I ate peanut butter on everything.
I have always liked the flavor, but when underway
peanut butter was one of my few ways to feel good. I also crave
attention. Peanut butter was the perfect outlet. At breakfast
when there were make your own waffles the iron took about 5 to
10 minutes most of the time. Due to the time it took to cook them,
most people would not waist their time. I however would, especially
if I just got off watch. I would make waffles and put about a
third of a jar of peanut butter on each one then smother it with
syrup. Some people would get huge eyes and become offended then
tell me how fat I was going to get or sometimes that I would even
be going to hell. They failed to realize I was already there.
I enjoyed and still enjoy enraging judgmental pricks. I would
enrage them in many so many ways. I would tell them that the menu
says its only 356 calories per waffle with assorted toppings.
Peanut butter found its way into every meal I could let it. On
a roll, in oatmeal with honey, in a shake, on cake, or just by
itself it was and still is darn yummie.
I understand that mental disorders are a real thing,
but I believe we all have places where if placed there, we wouldn't
have any. The boat induced them in me. No stimulants, low oxygen
in recycled air, negative people, no sunlight, no family, no fresh
food.... I would go so far as to say there is nothing natural
about a submarine. One of the ways to compensate for the inadequate
stimuli and alienated feeling that are a part of everyday underway
life is to eat peanut butter. PB is high in the amino acid Tryptophane,
which is the precursor to a neurotransmitter called Serotonin
By eating excessive amounts of peanut butter one could help elevate
Serotonin levels. One of the classes of anti-depressants is called
selective serotonin uptake re uptake inhibitors. Prozac, paxil,
and zoloft all increase serotonin levels. I am a firm believer
that we all come from nature so we would be better without synthetic
drugs if possible. In Germany, and many countries outside the
USA, far more people are treated for depression using St Johns
Wort or other natural plants than the synthetic drugs. In the
United States we have a firm belief that if we can't synthesize
it and put a patent on it then it is of no economic gain nor practical
use. I read a book on St Johns Wort after I got out of rehab and
found out about the peanut butter - tryptophan - serotonin link
and found it humorous.
In Peanut Butter we trust!
