Moon Base

On submarines people have to perform shipboard qualifications and when a person qualifies then they get their dolphins. Until you get dolphins if you are not liked quals are harder on you and you are considered delinquent if not well ahead of the standard. It is like eating a foreign cheese on the moon base. I have this crazy belief that if the standards aren't good enough then they should be changed, but lots of dumb people like to sell the 110% angle. Eventually their progressive stupidity will cause 120% to be a necessity ... dumb. If you fall behind you have to come in for hours of extra work every day except sunday. As if living arrangements were not bad enough underway, sharing a bed ..., some people restrict other privileges from you until you are qualified ... dumb. Even the fastest people usually take about 5 or 6 months before they have achieved full moon privileges on the moon base.

Almost my entire chain of command wanted to put me delinquent, but the leading nuclear enlisted advisor would not let them. He was such an amazing man that he took his boss and made him apologies to me in front of him for doing something wrong. He was one of the few reasons I lasted as long as I did on the moon base. I thank him and showed my appreciation by being fully qualified faster than anyone in my division that was on my boat or has arrived since (at time of writing this, as the future moon base may change.)

When a guy gets done with his qualification board the CO pins his dolphins on. Some people think of it as a big deal, but I really didn't, and that's a good thing because they took my dolphins away from me upon departure from the service. Some kids tried to tell me it was territorial, like a high school mentality thing, but I believe it is something specific to the moon base. Either way, this shows how little they actually mean. Your not part of our club!!! In all reality this just shows how little they remember on the issue of who didn't want or need who, as I left voluntarily, and if they impose a draft they will never again have access to me.

I plan on starting my own colony elsewhere, they can have the moon.
